After 17 years at Crossroads Presbyterian Church as our Supply Pastor, Dr. Scott Leslie is retiring. Please join us for worship on Sunday, November 17th at 11am with a Thanksgiving celebration meal to follow.
"Kirk" is the Scottish word for "church." Tartans, with their distinctive plaid, represent specific Scottish clans, regions, or regiments. The "Kirkin' O' The Tartans" is the presentation of a Scottish family's symbol, its tartan, at church for blessing.
After Bonnie Prince Charlie's Scottish forces were defeated by the English in 1746 in the Battle of Culloden, the wearing of tartans and the playing of bagpipes were forbidden in Scotland for many years. Wearing or displaying of tartans was punishable by death. During those years, some Scots wore concealed pieces of their tartan when they attended church. At a particular point in the worship service, they would secretly touch their hidden tartan cloth, and the minister would offer a blessing.
The first formal "Kirkin" in America was conducted at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., in 1941. Their minister was Dr. Peter Marshall, born in Scotland, who was also Chaplain of the United States Senate.
Beyond the particular heritage of Scotland and its people, Crossroads Presbyterian's Kirkin' is intended to encourage all participants to reflect with thanksgiving on their own family and ethnic heritage, and to celebrate God's grace poured out for all generations. We are a community of believers dedicated to serving God and spreading His love. We invite you to join us for worship and fellowship every Sunday at 11am.

Prior to that time, he had served full-time pastorates in Allen, Texas; Okeechobee, Florida; Overland Park, Kansas; and Ararat, Virginia. He and his wife, Mary, also served as missionaries in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Republic of the Congo), and he served as a Volunteer-in Mission in Kwangju, (South) Korea. Dr. Leslie also served as a Chaplain in the US Army Reserve for 13 years. A graduate of Texas A&M University and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, Pastor Scott retired two years ago from teaching at Blue Ridge High School where he taught World History, US History, Government, Economics, Psychology and Sociology. Raised in the Presbyterian church, his faith came alive while in High School. He is the third of eight children. His father (a US Navy veteran, now deceased) retired from the aerospace industry as an engineer with several NASA contractors; his mother (also deceased) retired from decades of work with Texas Child Protective Services. He has been married over 40 years to his wife Mary. They have two married adult daughters, one of whom is a teacher in San Antonio, and the other who works for Samsung Telecommunications in Plano. Scott’s hobbies include investigating his Scottish history and lineage, playing guitar, exploring the outdoors and reading good science fiction novels. He has received numerous awards for his teaching and pastoral work over the years, but holds the greatest prize the honor of being claimed by Jesus Christ and participating in His life of service to the world (Philippians 3:12).

Established in 1883, Crossroads Presbyterian Church has been a cornerstone of our community for over 141 years. Our story began as the Desert Creek Church, where thirteen members from five families installed three elders and two deacons. Its original location is not far from our current church. In 2011, we broke ground for a new building on land donated by the Brummett Family. The first service was held on September 4, 2011.
